1 Oct 2003 - George undergoes major overhaul!
George the Atlantic 4-4-2, was recently removed from the Downs School, where it had been on display since 1984. The locomotive, now undergoing restoration, was originally withdrawn from service when it was sold to Mr G T E Cadbury to finance the building of Tubby 2 (now James Boyd).
The locomotive was stripped during 2003/4 in order to restore the chassis into full working order. A new boiler has been commissioned and is currently under construction.
The locomotive is planned to return to the DLR in the Summer/Autumn of 2005. This is set to be one of the highlights of the 80th Anniversary of the Downs Light Railway.
